is she muslim?
since her father is iranian, and she uses the islamic name of "anwar," is she muslim? practising or lapsed?
sharesince her father is iranian, and she uses the islamic name of "anwar," is she muslim? practising or lapsed?
shareI don't know but I doubt it.
shareShe's not Muslim. Her father is Iranian though (not Indian as imdb says). Many Iranians are not really muslim - more like in name only. Especially those who marry Christians. Most Iranians are of zoroastrian descent and still celebrate Nou Rooz (1st day of Spring). I'm sure she celebrates Christmas.
Anwar isn't an islamic name. I have an Iranian name (it's Iranian not arabic).
No one is of Zoroastrian descent, zoroatrianism is a religion. And I wouldn't say *most* iranians are zoroastrian, more like a small minority. Most iranians these days are Muslim, practicing or not, most are non-practicing, i.e. drink alcohol etc.
shareThe Parsis are an Indian minority who practice Zoroastrianism. Parsis are referred to as an ethno-religious group. So there is often merging of religion and ethnicity. The best example is ethnic Jews who practice Judaism.
shareIranians are a diverse people, some are observant of Islam others are not. It is incorrect to say Iranians as a whole just dont care about Islam.
Celebnating Nou Rooz etc is a cultural thing and does not mean people have abandoned Islam.
Stop tryign to be something you are not! You are fro mthe Middle East deal with it!
shareMost Iranians are Muslim (at least 95%), but not all of them really practice it.
The amount of Zorostrians, Bahais, Jews, Christians is in the hundreds of thousands, but probably not a million.
Also Anwar is definitely a Arab name.
ie: Anwar Sadat.
Anwar is arabic word, from the root word "Nur" means "lights"
shareOnly about 3 per cent of Iranians are Arabs. The majority are Persians. The country's official language is Persian, not Arabic.
