Why isn't she a bigger star?

Don't you find it ironic that Karen Allen starred in two of the most successful films of all time - Raiders of the Lost Ark and Animal House - and has made many other good movies, and yet she isn't considered a big star? Does she not have a good agent, or what?

she is so hot. that strip poker scene in "the wanderers?" out of this world. those eyes. she's so subtle and has those huge eyes. and starman? i don't remember anything about that movie except she was in it. i'm a bit young for karen allen but she's a star to me.

Funny you should say that, because some names just sound like all-time stars. Karen Allen is one of them. Other actors I don't notice much in current day films I still consider huge. Richard Dreyfuss, an example.

She won't wear makeup. I'm not kidding either. Turns down roles if she has to wear makeup.

She's done a lot of stage work and since the 90's has been raising kids. Not everybody wants to be a big celebrity. There's a high price to pay for it.

She won't wear makeup.

Aha...that might be a problem in this business. Maybe she's allergic to some of the pigments, etc. Too bad, I'd love to see her in more films.

I heard that she was a real pill in a certain early-eighties action blockbuster, and the filmmaker made no bones about his displeasure with the way she comported herself on set. Hence, not so many more good jobs.

Karen Allen is a "big enough" star, I believe. She's made a lot of popular films ("Starman," "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Animal House"), but she has also done art films, like Paul Newman's version of "The Glass Menagerie," in which Karen Allen is AMAZING as Laura. Not every actor wants to be hounded by the press or featured in news articles. I imagine Karen Allen would be quite happy with her career. She's famous enough to be remembered and enjoyed, but it seems she has a measure of privacy as well.
