There's one in the works: http://diehard.wikia.com/wiki/Die_Hardest. They say it will be the last one in the series. So far there has been no confirmed plot to this film. However, the only complete script contains a plot involving the 30th anniversary of the Nakatomi Hostage Crisis in 1988, when retired New York City Police detective John McClane is invited to Tokyo by the Nakatomi Corporation to be commended for his bravery and efforts in saving 36 lives. McClane soon discovers a vengeance from the past and that Nakatomi is not all that it appears to be. (based on Trebilcook's 'Old Habits Die Hard' spec and his original screenplay 'Big In Japan') It also looks like they're going to try to get almost everyone who was ever attached to the franchise back for this one.Bruce Willis has confirmed on several websites and interviews that he would sign on to do a sixth Die Hard film, even though the cast and major details of the plot are unknown at this time. On April 30th, 2013 a sixth film was confirmed under the working title Die Hardest. The script was written by Ben Trebilcook.[1]
Writer Ben Trebilcook has said via Twitter that the script to his 'Die Hardest' (aka 'Old Habits Die Hard') is complete. Trebilcook has stated that he feels that his treatment for Die Hardest is comparable to the sixth film of the Rocky franchise in that it brings the series back to its roots.[2] No official word from Fox so far has confirmed or denied details revealed to be true or false. The primary locations revealed so far include New York and Tokyo. There's also been strong indications towards Samuel L Jackson potentially returning to reprise the role of Zeus Carver by Trebilcook.[3] How Zeus will be involved in the story has yet to be revealed. It has been stated by Trebilcook that the plot mostly revolves around McClane being on his own, much like in the original Die Hard and unlike the previous three films in the series, McClane won't have a 'partner' character by his side the whole time, and will end the series as he started it; on his own with minimal assistance from anyone else.
Bruce Willis has also personally expressed interest in having both the characters of Al Powell and Holly Gennero making some kind of appearance in the film.[4]
Bonnie Bedelia has said that she has no interest in reprising the role of Holly Gennero. [5] They're even bandying about the name of Arnold Schwarzenegger as one of the Gruber family. But it's clear that even though that site has documentation for what they're saying, things haven't really gelled.
They better get around to it soon, as you said. Hollywood can move fast if they want to, but I'd rather they get it right than merely fast.
