His Charles Manson movie

I'm really excited for that, I would think it'd be something different for him as in it'd be a straight up thriller without any of his comedic dialogue in it.

reply

I'm looking forward to see his take on a Charles Manson story too, if he's feels capable enough for that task. Likely something a bit different for him from his previous works.

reply

Charles Manson’s role in this movie is as minimal as Hitlers in inglourious Basterds. It’s literally a small small part of the story. It serves as a backdrop to the actual story.

reply

I posted this before that information came out.

reply

it'll be horrible...

reply

Probably, and extremely historically inaccurate. Probably include some degree of fantasy about being the Manson having a harem of beauties who'll do anything he says, instead of a bunch of unwashed and unattractive losers. Really, look at pictures of those girls and they're no beauties, and you can't smell them in a picture!

I've read enough about the case that historical inaccuracies and imposing fantasies on it will bother me. I want the project to go to the "American Crime Story" people instead.

reply

The Manson's will not be the focus of the film. I believe it's going to be through the eyes of people who lived in the area at the time of the crimes.

reply

Like "Son of Sam", you mean?

reply

I don't think Tarantino has the decipline or range to do something like Son of Sam... It'll end up being silly, just as Inglorious Basterds and Django did, but he won't be able to rely on his revenge fantasy trope in order to deliver the spectacle of violence...

Could turn out bad...

reply

Honey if he's capable if having his heroes machine-gun Hitler and his high command at the end of IG, he's capable of ending this mess with Roman Polanski taking out the entire Manson Family with a flame thrower!

Like I said, I want the story of the Manson Family to be filmed by someone capable of historical accuracy.

reply

Yeah... I agree... Hopefully if this goes into production, another studio will do a competing Manson project that we can contrast with this... But I don't know if there is an apetite to do that.

I think people have tried to do TV series about this, but nothing has come of it yet...

reply

I keep hoping the "American Crime Story" people will take on the story of the Manson Family, and their fall. Those people aren't just capable of doing a great job, they're capable of doing a great job while actually sticking to the real story! AND they take enough time to do complicated stories justice!

It's just that there's no good role for Sarah Paulson, and apparently they won't do a thing without her.

reply

Ha ha ha, You posted that a year ago and you were SO VERY CLOSE to the actual Plot! It wasn't Polanski with the flame thrower, otherwise BINGO!

reply

Oh dear God.

I hate it when reality lives down to my most pessimistic expectations.

reply

Is this the film that was a remake of an earlier film which I think was about female assassins? That was in IMDb and it’s completely gone now.

reply

I hope it will be a change of pace for him since his old shtick really started to wear thin in Hateful 8.

I hope it will be restrained in Tarantinoisms like explosive violence played for laughs and cool dialogue. Also hope that the Mansion family wont be gunned down by machine guns.

Untitled Quentin Tarantino/1969 Project (2019) https://moviechat.org/tt7131622/Untitled-Quentin-Tarantino1969-Project

A TV actor and his stunt double embark on an odyssey to make a name for themselves in the film industry during the Charles Manson murders in 1969 Los Angeles.

reply

Interesting... That sounds like a recipe foe disaster... So he'll insert his movie-star wannabe avatar into this movie? ... The kind of video store idiot from True Romance, but set against real life tragic murders...

I can't see him being able to pull it off... Seems like that would call for a kind of nuance that he simply doesn't have in him... I am prepared to be proven wrong, but I can't see it happening...

reply

Yes I know I posted this before that information came out.

reply

Disgusting idea ... let's make a hero out of Charles Manson, or just show all the morons who love blood and guts in detail what happened. No thank you.

reply

Looks like someone jumped to conclusions.

reply

Did you?

reply

No, but you did. He doesn't make Manson out to be a hero at all in this whole movie nor does it follow the events of what actually happened.

reply

fast forward to today.. yep great film. i liked it

I am hoping for an intelligent discussion on the aesthetics of Quentin's Movies. So Don't Belligerently Bash My Brains in because you like Quentin and I don't, Please. I find the level of gleeful Revenge based Violence in his movies Disturbing. he is really the "Charles Bronson Stars in Death Wish 4" of respected Film Makers.
I Think his movies are ripe for Psycho Analysis of the Film maker / Writer - Which is Quinton. Starting with "Inglorious Bastards" Some one correct me if I am wrong, but Quinton is Jewish, right? I get The Revenge fantasy there, the Holocaust is no small injustice. It effects the Jewish Psyche, it effects anyone with a sense of decency or compassion for their fellow man to see the skin and bones of the survivors of Auschwitz in the old black and white News Reels . I'm Irish, I think it is in my DNA to get angry at Injustice since the Potato Famine and the manner in which it was the Cruel indifference of the British that literally caused it, ( all other crops and the healthy potatoes were headed to Britain, while the Irish starved) but this transpired before my Grandfather was born (?!?) but I feel like it is in my DNA to stand against such Grotesque in humane treatment. So I get what inglorious Basterds was about. But Is that good Film Making? or Just simply a Revenge fantasy like Charles Bronson in Death Wish? No one thinks Death Wish is High Cinema.

o relate it to my own Irish Experience... ( Since I don't feel Comfortable Speaking For the Jews in relation to the Holocaust) Would it serve the history of the Potato Famine to make a movie Wherein MIchael Collins ( a Non-fiction Irishman, who was not around during the famine) Storms the Shipyard and slaughters The British Crews and returns the Cargo ( FOOD) to the Irish, Including a poor Irish Mother ( portrayed by Uma Thurman) who desperately Feeds it to her Malnourished starving children Just in the Nick of time. Only to have the last British Sea captain Show up to reclaim the food, and have her bash his brains in with a rock on screen graphically. Would it serve the history to put a Fictional "Happy ending" (?) on this sad chapter in history? Is a Cathartic Revenge fantasy high Art? Is it even Healthy? I don't think so.

I never saw Either KILL BILL, So Correct me if I'm Wrong, but They are about a woman exacting revenge against an abusive male in a patriarchal society? I don't have to ask if this Is Healthy... IT IS NOT! It pits half the Human race against the other half in the war to end all wars, end all love, and End all Children....Revenge sheds no light on the Battle of the sexes. TRY RELATIONSHIP COUNCILING! And Being that Quinton isn't a woman does he have the estrogen to relate their pain? He is Certainly lacking in Maternal instinct!

Which Brings us to Django Unchained, a black slave Revenge Fantasy. Does Quinton as a White man have the right to negate Martin Luther KIng Jr's Message? The Message that Won the Civil Rights Movement? Is it Healthy to take up the argument of " Shit no! That Honky would never get away with Whipping Me?" Yeah, he would and did, Jamie Fox, You are a fictional Superhero Character! It is kinda belittling, to say " oh all you had to do is walk in with guns blazing and Dynamite! and magically dodge all Bullets" .. It amounts To,"if you had been More Like Django, You could have spared yourself all of that."

Now to the Oddest Entry in Quinton's Fictional Revenge fantasies- ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD. All previous Entries are grand in scope- a grave injustice to an entire race or gender of people. This one was just about the gruesome, nonsensical murder of 4 people by a cult? In Quinton's version Sharon Tate Survives it and The Manson Family members in attendance Get their Brains bashed in, Their Dick Bit off, and charbroiled by a flame thrower...He didn't even alter so that Manson the Architect of this madness was there to get his? What is so Special about these 4 victims that they deserve their own fictional happy ending? Is Quinton Elevating being a Resident of Hollywood to a special stature wherein it's different than Jonestown or Columbine, or Virginia Tech, Newtown CT or 10,000 other examples of a Mass Murder of at least 4 people that happens every year, on every continent, at least 3 or 4 times, to be generous? Does being a Hollywood Starlet ( and 8 months Pregnant) who can rock a mini-skirt and Go Go boots, raise Sharon Tate to the level of The Holocaust or Slavery? What Grand Injustice is he addressing with his latest fictional revenge fantasy?

And, one last after thought. What Kind of Cognitive Dissonance is Quenton Causing? Going back to my earliest remarks about fighting injustice being in my DNA as an Irishman, born in America, approaching the end of " The Troubles" ( that's what we of Irish decent call the Fucked up unjust British rule " "The Troubles") I was very late to the game and already removed from Ireland on a different Continent , from Birth, from My Father's Birth(!?!), yet I honestly feel it is built into my DNA.

Re-writing history and getting revenge may feel cathartic for 2 hours, but what happens then? To Keep this a Cinematic Discussion- THE ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND is what happens! You are still carrying around the same baggage, You just don't know why or who's Baggage it is? There is Nothing mature or Healthy about Tarantino's Film making!
I will only give him props for the Hysterically funny tale of "how your father's watch made it back to be in your hand now." GO WASH YOUR HANDS QUICK! Which is a perfect metaphor for what Tarantino's films do, but you can't wash your brain.
