The only performance where he was truly himself and not doing a cut-rate Nicholson impersonation was his first movie, The Name of the Rose.

Except for Heathers where he deliberately impersonated Jack Nicholson, I've never gotten that vibe from him... but his Nicholson impression is pretty good.
