Agree with you 100 percent. I was about to take issue with the second half of your statement, that she's not dedicated to her craft, was gonna tweak it to say that she's not dedicated to her career. But, upon reflection, you're absolutely right.
Frankly, I think she's bored with acting. I mean she's been a professional actor since she was 13. By all indications, she's a very smart person and for someone of her intellect, I think acting just doesn't hold the interest it once did. For the most part the roles she takes these days are small and lets her work with either her friends (Tim Burton, James Franco, Keanu Reeves), people she knows (Michael Almereyda, Rebecca Miller) or writers she respects (David Hare, David Simon). And the roles she takes aren't really outside of the comfort zone of what she knows how to play, nothing that would require an extra commitment on her part. She comes on set, hits the mark, does her work, and goes home.
The acclaim she's received for Stranger Things has been a double-edged sword for her in a way. (In my opinion anyway.) For starters, it wasn't a project she actively sought out, it was the casting director who suggested her to the Duffers. And to be honest, she wasn't anticipating or even hoping that it would become the hit it has. Ryder would have been perfectly content to do the job, collect her paycheck and then slip out of the limelight again. And now that she's committed to a second season, I seriously doubt that she would want to take on the added work of other projects. I might be wrong about this(I don't think I am though) but Stranger Things is gonna be the only thing she does for awhile, not for lack of demand for her but because that's the way she wants it.
