Having just seen Ben is Back, in some scenes I thought she looked about early 40s, but then in bad lighting, I thought she looked guant and old. It's almost as though her thinness makes her both young and old.

Yes, but from a distance, skinny looks young. I'm a skinny guy of 38 years old and I still have to show ID to get into some places which can be annoying, especially when security pass remarks or even question if my ID is legit.
shareYou´re a guy though. I think skinny men generally look younger, since a strong jawline generally represents youthfullness in men. People automatically assume a heavier guy is older since most people put on weight as they age. Its not quite the same for women. I think a woman who is thin but not too thin, especially in the face will look younger. I think fatter women generally look younger because the skin doesn´t "hang" as much because the fat causes the skin to look tight but the giveaway is that fat people are fat because they are generally older and their metabolisms have slowed so its a double edged sword. Obv genetics plays a huge part in how youthful someone looks.
