Keanu came up with the story for the JLaw starring Passengers film ?

I was reading on the message board for writer Jon Spaihts, who scripted the Passengers film, that actor Keanu Reeves came up with the story idea several
years ago and hired JS to script it.

With regards to KR starring in it and why he didn't, it's not clear why it took so long to get made, or if KR either lost interest, or decided he was too old.

I've got no answers, just a confirmation that several years ago, there was talk about him starring. Was it to be created by his own production company? I can't remember.

Anyway, even though he looks great for his age, he's way too old to be a plausible selection for a man who will be among a small number of planetary colonists.

I'm not buying it.

If Tom Cruise can play Steven Seagal (did it really matter that Tommy Boy has as much menace as Pee Wee Hermann), KR can play an alfa selection.

Chris Pratt is a good actor, not a great one. Keanu Reeves is God's gift to humanity.

Get out!!!! Keanu was robbed of something he came up with? Hollywood sons of bitches!

Who knows if he really was behind the idea. As for not starring in it, it's safe to say that almost any actor would lose interest in a project that's stuck in development hell. Whatever the reason, it would've been cool to see Keanu and Emily Blunt in it... even if the final movie isn't making the best impressions.

You want something corny? You got it!

I think he should have made it into a tv series, sort of like Lost only in Space but it will not be like Lost in Space. It would be more like a few passengers wake up from their hibernation 99 years too early and can't go back to sleep. Big mystery about how and why they have awaken.

Who knows if he really was behind the idea.Writer Jon Spaihts said that Keanu was 'instrumental' in the story's development; while the initial idea came from Spaihts, he developed it with Keanu's collaboration. Keanu was very enthusiastic about the script (it was his pet project) and as of 2014 was still desperately trying to get it made. He didn't lose interest, but was kicked off the movie when Sony bought the script and decided to go in a different direction.even if the final movie isn't making the best impressions. I really preferred the original script that got released (and that made #3 on the 2007 Black List of the best unproduced scripts in Hollywood). They changed a few crucial plot points in the movie that made it more generic and took away a lot of its brilliance, plus made it more morally iffy (in a bad way) than the original story. It was this delightfully twisted dark psychological thriller that ended up being a stalkery romance in space, and I'm still sad at what could have been.

Keanu was first interested in the script 'Shadow 19' by Jon Spaihts, but that didn't manage to get made. He asked about other ideas Spaihts had, and he presented Keanu with a few. One included a story including a scene with a guy stranded in space. Keanu wasn't into the rest of the story but thought that particular image was fascinating, and asked if Spaihts could do something more with that. So they had a phone conversation, Spaihts riffed off some ideas, and along the way they came up with what eventually became Passengers. Spaihts wrote the script out in full, Reeves loved it, his production company got attached to develop it, and they spent the next few years trying very hard to get it made. At one point they were almost good to go, but things fell apart.

Eventually, Sony bought it over but dropped Keanu as lead and producer, to his disappointment. Most likely he was too old - the role called for someone in his early to mid 30s, and Keanu had just passed 50. Keanu's production partner Stephen Hamel stayed on.

The script went through a few revisions and plot changes (for the worse, IMO), they got Pratt and Lawrence on board, doubled the budget, and there you go.

Well said, Anakin!

I didn't like the movie at all. Chris Pratt wasn't the right choice in my opinion.
