The McConaissance Era 2011-2014 or 2011-Present?

The McConaissance started after a remarkable shift from cheesy rom com actor to genuine lead star and great actor in 2011, with The Lincoln Lawyer, Bernie and Killer Joe, all being good performances and films.

He followed it up with the great film and much underrated Mud, the OK crime film The Paperboy and still satisfied the ladies with Magic Mike in 2012.

In 2013, he gave a memorable cameo in The Wolf of Wall Street and showed he is just as adept at comedy as drama and received an Oscar for his great performance (although I personally thought Leo should have won) for Dallas Buyers Club.

2014 was even better: was a part of one of the most ambitious and visually amazing films ever made even if I felt the story was fairly flat and underdeveloped with Interstellar and gave one of the greatest television performances of all time in the fantastically written, shot and acted show True Detective, which gained a large fan base due to its deep philosophical content/tone.

In 2015, he was a part of one film: The Sea of Trees, which flopped commercially and had critics walking out of the Cannes cinemas. Considering he has no others for this year, but does have two voice roles coming up as well as two films he's already shot: Gold and The Free State of Jones, do you think this is the end of the McConaissance or we can skip a year and 2016 will resume his hot streak?

Sea of Trees didn't flop commercially - it hasn't been released yet. The Cannes critics ripped it up because it was "sentimental". No self-respecting hipster Cannes critic can admit they liked something if their twitter pals thought it was "sentimental". Doesn't mean it won't be a hit. Doesn't mean it's not good either. It's just not "edgy" and Cannes demands edgy.

The fact the studio is pushing back the release of Free State of Jones is a good sign. They think they're going to make Big Bucks. May might seem like an Oscar unfriendly release date, but an early release didn't harm Boyhood or Grand Budapest Hotel this year.

Both Gary Ross and Stephen Gaghan have great Oscar credentials. I think the McConaissance 2.0 will hit next year.

A year with 5 potential releases calls for a new designation.
