shareYeah so, why the hell should he care?
shareKing has since spoken out about his comments, tweeting a few hours later: “The most important thing we can do as artists and creative people is make sure everyone has the same fair shot, regardless of sex, color, or orientation. Right now such people are badly under-represented, and not only in the arts.”
He followed it up with: “You can’t win awards if you’re shut out of the game.”
"Online fury"
It's the usual slacktivists who represent probably less than 10 percent of Social Media accounts like Twitter and create 90 percent of the messages. As usual, the media picks up on it and presents it as if there's this widespread outrage about King's comments.
Exactly. And people take it hook, line, and sinker.

It doesn't matter what is said, as soon as a celebrity comments on a topical matter someone, somewhere is bound to get furious online about it. Online fury is just par for the course these days. Anyway, I agree with him, of course awards should be given only on merit.
I thought he clarified his comments perfectly:
“The most important thing we can do as artists and creative people is make sure everyone has the same fair shot, regardless of sex, color, or orientation. Right now such people are badly under-represented, and not only in the arts.”
“You can’t win awards if you’re shut out of the game.”
Nothing more to see here.
It's a shame he backpedaled so fast. He's got more than enough money and he's old, so why does he care if the internet mob cancels him. I think his kids must influence him. I know his one kid Joe is uber-woke. Back in the day Stephen King never seemed like this.
