WTF happened to Tom Hanks???

Back when Hanks was young, he was not only in funnier and more entertaining films, but he himself was funnier and more entertaining. His facial expressions and body language were hilarious! I realize that when he first came on the scene with TV's Bosom Buddies, and then great films like Bachelor Party and Big, that he was in his 20s, but damn...he sure turned into an overweight boring old man now that he is in his 50s.Really, WTF happened to him?

It is called complacency and old age, plus a bunch of people sucking up to him to no end. He has no sense of reality and hasn't had a great performance since Castaway. He is filthy rich and just phones it in now.

I haven't even seen Castaway, and really have no interest in a movie that probably is exclusively Tom Hanks at this point in his career. It's really a shame what happens to comic actors who take themselves too seriously after awhile as you allude to. But as far as his age, I'm the same age as he, and I'm nowhere near as overweight and serious about and full of myself as he obviously has become.

Well he was better in dramas too. It's hard to fathom that he's the same actor who performed that aria scene in Philadelphia.

It's called ACTING. Tom has branched out and challenged himself wonderfully over the years. It's been a great joy to watch him expand. He is trying to create characters with more dynamic and emotional range than people like you can clearly understand. I mean, Cast Away is a wonderful film, because it only features Tom, and only Tom could hold audiences' attention for 2 hours by himself... and then, pull at the heartstrings over a goddamn volleyball.

Well said Luke. I couldn't agree with you more.

He is no Kevin Sorbo, that is for sure.

Castaway is a great movie. I would recommend it. I do agree with most of what you said though. My favorite comedy of his being The Burbs (1989). Hands down the funniest thing he ever appeared in. All those dramatic role of the 1990's seemed to dull his once great sense of humor and timing.

He gave a great performance in Captain Phillips, I dont find him boring at all
