I suspect Mel may be bi-polar.
He seems like an incredibly charming, likable man. And he has done a lot of good, selfless things for a lot of people. But clearly, he does have a lot of rage and anger issues pent-up inside him as well.
I can forgive Mel his anger issues. Some people with issues like this....will say some of the most hurtful things they can think of to say, in order to push the buttons of the person they're wishing to hurt (or get a reaction from) at that moment.
What I appreciate....is the true class of the friends he has in people like Jodi Foster and Robert Downey, Jr. Clearly, they see past his worst moments. They don't judge him and they didn't turn their backs and abandon him. They are rare examples of true friends. Loyal friends. And they remained loyal to Mel despite the backlash they may have gotten for supporting him.
Forgiveness, grace....love.....should be cornerstones of most all faiths. It should be what binds us together. It's a shame so many people have such cold, black hearts....and cannot forgive. A person with no forgiveness in their heart, is a shell of a man. The inability to forgive, to me......seems a lot worse than Mel saying some awful things he regrets, in a fit of bi-polar rage. Things he has apologized for, and has asked forgiveness for.
In any case....his talent shines through it all. Not even the most resentful blackballers can stifle that.
