Could he die in the next decade?

not that i want him to. i think he's a good actor. but my friends were discussing how tom cruise is so obsessed with looking, acting, and appearing youthful. being 50 years old but playing roles meant for 25-30 year olds, always hooking up with young women in movies. but now it's obvious that he's 60, and the cracks are showing fast. he seems to be fearing the idea of getting old. would he be the kind of person to die "young" before he has a chance to get too old to be unable to do what he loves? Bruce Lee was open about fearing his age, and he died at only 32. i don't really see Cruise doing dramatic roles in his 70's and 80's, but i also have a very hard time seeing him do more than one more Mission: Impossible film.

maybe he could be like stallone and just continue to do self-wanking action movies to prove he's "still got it" but most of stallone's movies are a step above bargin bin at walmart quality. i couldn't see tom cruise going that low anytime soon.

Tom keeps himself fit 24/7, he’s going to last until his 80s most likely.

reply

Nah, age catches up to everyone. His aging will accelerate big time in the next 10 years.

reply

Keeping oneself fit isn't a guarantee. I think a lot of us are going to reach 100, but cancer can hit anyone. Every incredibly fit people can have heart attacks.

reply

Interesting that you reference Bruce Lee, because I was thinking that Chi Kuan-Chun (born in 1949) has aged better than Cruise.

reply

He could die any time, the same way that disease or accident can claim anybody, but in terms of aging, yeah, he might. His risks are greater, too, since he keeps insisting on doing his own stunts in (as you say) youth-oriented roles.

On the other side of the coin, he's aging pretty well and seems to keep himself in incredibly good shape, so who knows? He's also got the cash to afford really good doctors (except psychiatrists...) so it's possible he'll be alive for ages.

As for his family, Wikipedia says his dad only lived 50 years (cancer) but his mom made it to 81. The average there is 65.5 years, so maybe he's checking out soon.

If I were to bet, though, I think he'll be around for awhile (barring accidents), and I think he'll make it past 70.

Statistics say the longer you live the longer you are going to live.
getting past your 50's and 60's means you are likely to live much longer.

Yes, this is true. The stats I saw said that 100% of the people who don't die in their 50s/60s lived longer than those that didn't...

reply

fuck off if you are too stupid to understand that.

reply

LOL!

Statistics say the longer you live the longer you are going to live.

Yeah, I once watched a movie called Highlander where the guys had lived for sooooo long they became immortal!

Incredible to think that stats have now PROVED that to be true ..

Like everybody else. God is a real SOB for all of this leading up to death.

reply

I sure hope not.
He’s about 60 now but he seems in fine shape.

I get that he’s a bit odd with some of his religious and marital choices but hey, the guy is a legit movie star, he’s nutty but great. I’d watch his movies when he’s in his 80s, I like the guy…I wouldn’t want to hang out with him, he seems like a weirdo but on-screen he’s great.

reply

i agree, he's a phenomenal actor. i watched magnolia last night and his performance is spellbinding. one plus about him getting old is we'd see more mangolia-esque performances, i hope.

reply

I never saw that one, I really enjoyed those earlier roles where he played the cocky young guy that was destined for greatness but still had a lot to learn…Top Gun, Cocktail, The Color Of Money, Days Of Thunder. He would always have an older guy mentor to show him the tricks of the trade and keep him on the right path. It was a good formula.

reply

HIS ROLE IN MAGNOLIA IS LIKE ANY OF THOSE COCKY YOUNG ROLES HE PLAYED IF THE MENTOR HAD NEVER SHOWN UP...GREAT MOVIE WITH AN ENORMOUS CAST.

reply

It doesn’t sound like something I’d like, I prefer dopey action, horror and crime stuff. But yeah, I looked it up, nice cast.

reply

IT IS THE SPIRITUAL COMPANION PIECE TO BOOGIE NIGHTS.

reply

I guess we're at that stage in his career when he gets to play the mentor - or not far off it. I wouldn't be surprised if he had films planned to transition away from hyper-action roles.

reply

Entering into his 60s this could be a great career choice. Lots of potential here. He could play the tough as nails war hero whipping young recruits into shape, the retired race car driver mentoring a hot-headed kid…Maybe an older pool-hustler that sees some talent in a young foolish teen off the streets.

This could be the next big stage of his career👍
