Kubrick should have dumped Cruise and gotten someone that had a bit of sex appeal.

Everybody praises that movie and I don't know why. I thought it was dumb. Not worthy even of Cruise, and I'm not his fan, not to mention Kubrick. Then I read even Kubrick regretted making it.

Fighting a religious war is like fighting over whose imaginary friend is better.

I thought it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Three hours of sheer torture. I kept waiting for it to get better but it just kept getting worse. Tom & Nicole were OK but the script was just garbage.

But the theater audience I saw it with were great. They hated it as much as I did. At one point, Sydney Pollack keeps telling Tom over & over again "You don't realize what you're dealing with." After the 4th or 5th time, someone in the audience shouted, "Jesus, TELL US already!" The rest of us applauded.

I also remember Kubrick died shortly before it opened. Smart career move.
