A lifetime achievement Oscar is typically (not exclusively) given to those who haven't won a competitive Oscar, as Connery has.

And you have to show up for it, and Connery has announced his retirement from all public appearances.

Anyway, he was awarded the AFI lifetime achievement award, and that's a bigger deal. The whole show is devoted to one person.

Yes, he really does deserve one. the Oscar for Lifetime Achievement is the most well deserved one given to someone whose career has reached its end after an outstanding body of work and this certainly applies to Sean Connery. Let's hope this happens before it is too late.

By the way... Star Wars prequels suck!!

I agree! Was excellent in many films including THE HILL and the OFFENCE and he was the only James Bond.
