The officer he played in Valkyrie died by putting a grenade under his chin. The movie shows him doing this and then cuts away before anything happens. I was wondering though that the people who didn't know what was going on would be left guessing as to what he was doing. They should have at least added the sound of an explosion off screen to explain it better.

They should have showed at least the explosion. I think they wanted the scene to be in suspense and then shot at Olbrich but it wasn´t good for Branagh´s character.
The worst thing is that they didn´t add the captions explaining the date when he died and the place just like they did with the rest of the conspirators.
He killed himself on July 21, the day after the plot Wasn´t it?

I believe so, they also don't point out that after it was discovered he was part of the plot, the nazi's dug him up. The following is direct from the Wikipedia entry on him.

When the assassination attempt on Hitler and the following coup in Berlin (July 20 Plot) had failed, Tresckow decided to commit suicide at the front in Królowy Most near Białystok on July 21. His parting words to Schlabrendorff were:
"The whole world will vilify us now, but I am still totally convinced that we did the right thing. Hitler is the archenemy not only of Germany but of the world. When, in few hours' time, I go before God to account for what I have done and left undone, I know I will be able to justify what I did in the struggle against Hitler. God promised Abraham that He would not destroy Sodom if just ten righteous men could be found in the city, and so I hope that for our sake God will not destroy Germany. No-one among us can complain about his death, for whoever joined our ranks put on the shirt of Nessus. The general was at first a supporter of the Nazi's before the night of long knives, and although he himself had no halo around his head; having signed orders to abduct thousands of Polish children for forced labor; it seems to me he had repented of his actions near the end when he decided to kill Hitler.
Well, they excluded from the film a lot of that background information of each conspirator.
I have read the nazis dug them both up, Tresckow and Stauffenberg, I know...
I missed that, Tresckow was one of the most interesting.
But considering the movie basically focus on the plot and not each conspirator, and the story is way complex for just two hours, they missed at least to caption what happened to him. Just like they did with the other conspirators.
