Gay rumours

Sorry for a stupid tquestion, but a friend of mine asked me today if it's correct that Kenneth Branagh used to have an affair with a man, and that was the actual reason why he and Emma Thompson divorced... I've never heard ANYTHING like that before, I've only heard about him dating (and occasionally marrying) women. So those people who said that to my friend, maybe it was just their wishful thinking.

Does anyone know if such rumours have ever existed? I don't mean, of course, that someone might KNOW "the real reason" for their divorce, just the part concerning a possible affair with a guy.

I think Emma was more concerned that he was after anything with a skirt on. It seems he had an affair with Helena Bonham Carter.

Never heard gay rumors about Branagh, but I do remember reading an interview with him in a gay magazine (The Advocate,I think) about 15 or sp years ago, mainly because he was on the cover and still a big name at the time. Anyway, I do recall him saying that he wasn't gay himself, but that he had some close gay friends (both him and Thompson, if my memory serves me right) and that he didn't have a problem with gayness itself or with gay marriage--he said he was cool with both. Hmmm,maybe that interview is what started those rumors in the first place!

Of course they have lots of close gay friends - Thompson, for instance, has been best friends with Stephen Fry since university! lol How can someone be prejudiced against gays when Stephen Fry is their best friend?!!! :D
