I've always thought that if The Party were to be remade Rowan Atkinson should do it, play the lead, and refine it to be funnier. I read Sellers improv'd his way through many scenes, so I think Atkinson could sit down and plan it better via scripting.
The other things is, he may be too old for it now, but maybe not as I see he just did a Comedy Relief of Bean.
That's a fantastic idea. I've got nothing more. Just fantastic. I was looking what he was up to - not much apparently. Someone should pitch that idea.

Thanks! I'd like to see it happen. Interesting thing is, for Rowan Atkinson, the lead could work as Mr.Bean or Hrundi V. Bakshi. I think I'd like to see Rowan as Hrundi because it would give him room to play as where Bean may actually be more restrictive. Either way it could work, same set-up and everything. Probably should let Rowan stretch his legs as a different character though.
Another good question is should it be in a modern setting or keep it in the 60's.
And maybe Kenneth Branagh could play the part of Bernard Stein!

Anyway, since the theme and setting of the movie is timeless, they could do either one, it wouldn't matter. But I would go with a modern day setting for the reason that the new generation wouldn't get why the movie is set in the 60ies, and they would be right. The film was contemporary, as such it should continue to be. Having in play in the 60ies would have no rhyme or reason other than that the original was filmed then.

The Party is a satire of 1960s culture. There's absolutely nothing about it that could be "remade" since all the things it made fun of no longer exist--i.e., the powerful, nasty studio bosses, the casting couch, the obsession with Indian culture and the free spiritedness of the times.
