shareThank you...completely agree with your post. Thought he "speech" was classless and self serving. Actually, I felt like I was being lectured to most of the night by the Oscar winners. Can you imagine getting an award at work and launching into some political diatribe? I was cringing every time the winners were called up. Except Julianne Moore...her speech was pretty good and seemed genuine.
shareExactly the reason I don't watch awards shows. The viewing audience wants to see the stars graciously accept their award, not get on a personal soap box.

I disagree. I'd rather hear what they are really passionate about and try to make a difference in the world with their 30 second speech time than talk about themselves or ramble awkward thank yous. I FF through those speeches. Yuck.

Get real Rushmore, "passionate about" thanks for the laugh.
Did Arquette check to see if the female film crew was getting equal pay? Or on her show "Medium".
Has she given from her own salary?
You knew who was a real Hollywood liberal who did good? Paul Newman.
This was nothing but a self serving and incredibly ridiculous statement.
Yes it's about celebrating cinema and its achievements, but cinema is an art that portrays the odd world we live in, and that requires controversy and visibility to gain momentum. Most of the people in that room have the money and visibility to influence the direction of our culture. I wouldn't blame her for her brief declaration of equality.
shareBut, having said that, I do wish she would have taken a leaf out of Jane Fonda's book. You know, that speech Fonda gave for her Oscar win for Klute in 1971 where she just said that there was an awful lot to say but that she wasn't going to say it that night. Just thank you, thank you very much. That would have been so much better*.
I agree.
