Why was he denied joint custody?

He wasn't. I am not sure why everybody is treating this as permanent when really they are just extending the agreement in place until a final custody arrangement has been reached and the divorce is final. I think the last temporary agreement was up last week so something needed to be done for the meantime.
He just filed for joined custody last week so he is not being denied anything.
