The Making of Myra Breckinridge

This film sunk Fox and was considered to be both a bomb as well as one of the first X-rated films ever to be released by a major studio (along with "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls"). It's become a cult movie now, and it sounds as though there are a lot of stories connected to it. It would be a great subject for a book or a documentary.

I remember Rex Reed once made a comment that the entire movie was made with all the actors locked in their dressing rooms waiting for their lawyers to show up.

Hey, interesting handle, Annie! Are you from Singapore? I grew up there and went to Bugis Street a few times before it was shut down by the city.

reply

I never got to go to Singapore, but back in the late 1970's and early 1980's I had books and magazines that mentioned Bugis Street with photos.

You may have already seen "Saint Jack." Check out another movie called "A Matter of Innocence." Also "The G.I. Executioner," a film I got to help them shoot in Singapore when I was a kid, but it's godawful, lol... all of these movies feature Bugis Street. There's also a Chinese film called "Bugis Street."

Thank you. I saw Saint Jack a long time ago, but I don't remember too much about it. I wanted to see Bugis Street, but I've never got to see that one yet. I will look out for the other movies too.

ANC did a Backstory episode on Myra. It featured an interview with Rex Reed and he was bitchy and fun. It's on Youtube.

Except "Valley of the Dolls" was a huge box office hit. Critical bomb but huge box office
