Her musician

Strange that Marilyn never had Alfred Newman as her musical director but used Lionel Newman instead when she worked for Fox. Did she have problems working with Alfred?

reply

No problems. In the old studio days, everybody did what they were assigned to do--Lionel worked more with MM. Neither he or Alfred ever had an unkind word for her. In fact, Lionel said that she was totally cooperative, loved to sing and never, ever had to be dubbed. Not. One. Note.

He made these remarks many years after Marilyn's death, so he had nothing to gain. In MM world it was--and is--always more profitable to say how difficult she was. (This is not to say she wasn't difficult, but nobody who ever worked with her on music, saw that side.)

Somebody should send this information to TCM 

reply

They HATE her. Literally.

I just heard that they have a new Saturday daytime host so here's hoping...

reply

If it's Ben Mankweicz (I know that spelling is wrong!) then there's no hope. He follows the TCM guidebook of trashing her in every intro to one of her films--on the rare occasions they deign to show her movies.

Her image is nowhere to be found in any TMC promotions of movies or movie stars in general. It's like she didn't exist.

reply

No, it's not Ben. Yeah, I've seen him introduce Marilyn movies and he's no better than Robert when it comes to her.

Her name is Tiffany Vazquez.

Just received the latest TCM Now Playing booklet, with their monthly listings. NOT ONE Monroe film. They have space to air "It's a Bikini World" but not anything w MM.

The attitude toward her grows ever colder over there.
