Cape Fear
Cape fear was on TCM last night. That movie is super creepy. Robert Mitchum is so believable as the sociopath. What a great actor he was! I love Gregory Peck in this too but Mitchum gave me the chills!

shareHe makes a great villain. I love him in Cape Fear and The Night of the Hunter.
shareNight of the Hunter is one of my top ten of all time. I love that movie. It is superb in every aspect. The way it looks, the story, the actors, it is such a great film noir!! Lillian Gish is the icing on the cake. Charles Laughton casting her was pure genius.

shareSame here. I have not seen Angel Face but will keep an eye out for it.
Heaven Knows Mr. Allison was one of my favorites. He also did The Sundowners (1960) also w/ Deborah Kerr. Sweet film showing Mitchum's versatility. He could play the main villain and be absolutely terrifying, or switch it around and play the kind-hearted father trying to raise a family.

shareLooooove Dead Man! I haven't seen it since it first came out. I'll have to look to see if that's on any time soon. That was Jim Jarmusch, right? I forgot that Robert Mitchum was in that. To tell the truth, I don't remember the movie that well. I just remember that I really liked it.
shareHe's so wonderful. And probably the sexiest man, ever. There's something about him that's just so real.
shareCookie LA! I'm happy to see you here. I feel like a lot of the people that posted earlier are gone because of the crazy trolling. I hope people are still out there but just waiting till they stop. Mitchum was super handsome. That's for sure!

I've always wanted to see the original Cape Fear. I've seen the 1991 version with Robert DeNiro and it was decent but a little over the top.
I really loved the Scorsese one, and slightly preferred it over the original, actually (not to besmirch Mitchum's performance. Just doing an overall film vs. film comparison).
The newer one was indeed over-the-top and heavy on the metaphors, but for some reason it really worked for me. De Niro's performance was incredible. And Scorsese and screenwriter chose to "dirty up the family" so that sin, guilt and almost divine punishment play into the film.
I like the original better but I did like Juliette Lewis' performance in the remake. She was really believable as the daughter. Oh, and I liked Jessica Lange in that too.
