A Fond Goodbye to Randy and Mike
This week will mark the final one for the legendary imdb discussion boards, and
while I'm supremely disappointed that these boards are going down, I find it
ironic that the board of my very favorite star of all-time - Judy Garland - is
the one I will miss the least.
It has been dead in the water for nearly a decade.
So sad that such a staggering talent, and fascinating person had her board
reduced to a one-man freak show. But try as we may to punch things up, curious,
possible newbies stayed away in droves. And who can blame them?
But I digress...I say thanks to Gubbio, even though our spats were often quite
sizzling. His wit and quick comebacks were indeed delicious - even the ones
directed right at me. To Randy, I say thanks to a soft friendship, that sort
of faded due to different locales. But there were some fun get-togethers in L.A.,
especially The Hollywood Bowl. We differed greatly in our eras of Garland, but
seemed to respect each other's taste. It WAS Judy we were talking about.
So, I raise a glass to what Randy once said was his most inspiring moment from
Judy - hearing her sing "Lucky Day." For me, since this is a truly sad week,
I'll do a play of "Girl Crazy's" haunting "But Not For Me."
Best to you all.
