Would he get hired today?

Undoubtedly talented but lazy as f**k! No one puts up with unprofessionalism anymore, no matter who it is.

He was worse than lazy. He would show up and demand ridiculous changes to the characters and script. He insisted on this outfit for The Missouri Breaks: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BYTBjOTQwOTYtMWEyZC00ODUwLWJkN2YtNjI4ODhjMWE4OTYyXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNjUwNzk3NDc@._V1_.jpg

And this for The Island of Dr. Moreau: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2017/sep/16/marlon-brando-monster-sabotaged-my-film-island-of-dr-moreau#img-1

In my opinion, he was worse than useless. If a director had a personal vision for a film and Brando was cast, forget it. He would make a mockery of it.

reply

To be fair, that was at the tail end of his career. The first few decades of his career he's one of the best there ever was.

reply

He worked up until near the end of his life. I think with the reputation he has he would still be hired regardless, albeit mostly for cameos or supporting roles where his unreliability would be less likely to delay or end a production.

reply

NIC CAGE IS THE MODERN BRANDO...CAGE WORKS CONSTANTLY.

reply

I think he'd have had a much shorter career, if he came up today. If a young Brando came up today, he'd be noticed and hired because of his talent, sex appeal, looks, and willingness to screw anyone who could help his career (Brando allegedly screwed Tennessee Williams to get his big break in "A Streetcar Named Desire".

But while the real Brando worked for most of his life, modern Hollywood is now dropping actors once they have a few flops or piss off the wrong people, and a modern Brando would not be spared. There would be bad behavior, unprofessionalism, scandals... and bye-bye modern Brando.

reply

Too sensitive - from the Legion of Decency to the hysterical PC brigade.

reply

Hollywood has always ditched actors who made enemies behind the scenes, who were involved in scandals, whom the public turned on, or who just didn't earn enough money to justify their pay.

The main difference between modern Hollywood and Old Hollywood, is that the movie studios used to give actors long-term contracts and invested in keeping their careers going, and they were MUCH better at hushing up bad behavior back in the day. Now, actors free-lance, and there's no haushing things up in an era when people will put absolutely anything on social media.

Why not just tough it out?

reply

Tough what out?

reply

The complaints- just ignore them.

reply

What complaints? I don't get what point you're trying to make.
