he still got the oscar the medal they give u when you give your speech is just one you use to give your speech .They send the oscar in the mail i think or through your agency he put in the work to earn he doesn't have to show up if he don't want to i think you have that choice .He just wasnt interested in that kind of vanity it wasnt wrong that he wasnt like the rest who reveled in the praise .

He wanted to put attention on something he had strong convictions for. And I believe it worked. Winning an award was meaningless at that point to him or even before.

I don't remember the exact quote. But I think he said something like acting as a competition to win an award is a joke.

The way i look at brando was he was too cool for school brando was like a honor roll gifted child put into remedial class of course your going to get bored as hell .I think that's what happened there was no one there to challenge him he started looking at what he was doing as a elephant looks upon peanuts .I think his heart drifted over into social issues with the indians and that is why he sent that women to get his award because i feel he was showing hollywood this is where his new passion was .Acting is a phony profession and for someone like brando you have to realize that when he became and actor he knew who he was .Just about all actors when they are getting into it are discovering who they really are brando had already figured himself out full circle he transcended the very art form he mastered and became enlightened to how childish acting really is essentially he grew up .It was a marriage of the child and the feminie side of him that got those epic performances out of him .In all of a us there is the Mother the father and the child psychologically brando tapped into all 3 and had moved on to other things with more substance like a social cause .Also actors dont have to go out there and accept and award its a choice you can go but you don't have to .
