Comparing activity on MovieChat to its closest competitor.

I ran the stats on another forum and since I have them I figured I'll post them here for the record:

Compare posts and threads on the new movie Nosferatu (2024) on MovieChat and filmboards:

MovieChat:

83 threads 509 posts

filmboards:

4 threads 82 posts

Okay, let's do the popular series Cobra Kai (2018):

I'll only go back one year because it's massive on MovieChat.

MovieChat:

54 threads 466 posts

filmboards:

12 threads 107 posts

If fb got rid of the trolls and anonymous /. posts they could compete.

Go MovieChat!

charli3 aka Joc Spader on v1 was telling me that fb was more active. So I ran the numbers to show him. There's just no comparison.

fb's General Discussion is more active than MovieChat's because they combine all the posts for all fb's boards there. Typical deceptive shenanigans. 🤣

I've said it before: I do prefer fb's fidelity to the old IMDb forums, the ability to link your old account to see old post history and the ability to exclude politics from Film and Television Discussion (their equivalent to Latest Posts), but the signal to noise ratio there is huge, and so is my blocklist. Even so, I rarely check in over there for the reasons you stated.

And I still have no idea what the whole "Buna" thing is about. Probably some anime thing? Just annoying.

reply

The "hana buna" crap is some gay British poster over there who plays black Afro-Caribbean guys on socks. He's also a right wing nut so it's probably racist. Lol.

reply

Sorry, so like he has sock accounts pretending to be Jamaican, Dominican, etc. guys? How oddly specific...

reply

Wow, I thought that place would have more traffic. I chose MovieChat over Filmboards because it looked cleaner and Filmboards had more assholes.

reply

I don’t think it’s that important, but it is nice that there are two similar sites that cater for two completely types of posters.

reply

It's important if you want something close to IMDb. Both sites have all the legacy boards from IMDb, but on filmboards they're dead. All the filmboards action is on General Discussion and it's mostly anonymous "/.". GD is slow here but the film and actor boards are more active.

reply

Moviechat looks like the old imdb.com boards - clean and simple. This is more like a small community.
