What did you watch this week sweetypie? (01/26-02/01)
My awesome week:
Pacific rim: Uprising (2018 Prime): Having enjoyed the first one very much, I knew it was wise to not precipitate myself towards this sequel. As I expected, they sucked most of the fun out of the first one and made it a “teenage” version. It was underwhelming but not totally bad. My rating: 5.5/10
Billy Elliot (2000 TV): Random fact; I still remember being at the videoclub with my parents and they tried to convince me on us choosing this movie and I always said no. Back then, I thought it would be corny and boring. At this time and point in my life, I expected it to be feel-good and uplifting. Turns out I found it quite sad, depressing and even somewhat vulgar. Another random fact; it’s rated R in the US but PG in Quebec. I don’t know how I would’ve reacted to this movie when I was 15. I think I would’ve liked it. At this point and time in my life, I appreciated it but wasn’t overly impressed or anything. My rating: 7/10
The fall guy (2024 Prime) A bit cheesy but there were definitely some great scenes. The one where Jody, the director, explains the story of the movie to Colt just after he was lit on fire was pretty funny. The fight scene in the club against the drug dealer’s goons was very cool. That’s just two examples. There were a few others that made this a charming enough and quite entertaining popcorn flick. If you leave your brain at the popcorn stand that is. Also, I’m really not a Gosling fan but I thought he was ok in this. I’m not big on Blunt either but she had enough chemistry with him. Too bad they made the whole thing last too long as it lost some of its effect by the third act. My rating: 7/10
Furiosa: A Mad Max saga (2024 DVD): Call me crazy but I slightly preferred the story in this one VS Fury road. The two hours went by pretty fast and the action was good but if I’m being honest, the special effects and CGI were at times a bit weak considering the budget and the reputation it has to live up to. Still, great fucking sequel. My rating: 8/10
Psycho Goreman (2022 DVD): Straight up one of my new favourite horror comedy. Loved it quite a lot. All of it. So much fun and filled with memorable moments and quotes. My rating: 8.5/10
Dark city (1998 DVD): Although I didn’t love it as much as I did the first time it still held up pretty well thanks to a very imaginative and captivating story. Just don’t watch it if you’re tired, I warn you. My rating: 7.5/10
The crow (1994 DVD): Violent, profound, spectacular and very sad. A great movie and a greater tragedy. My rating: 9/10
