Did You Like The Movie, "Adelheid"?

Adelheid - 8/10
Best movie I've seen in at least 2 years.. Despite my neighbor and her loud assed muffler going on for an hour.. I had to take a break (play drums to block out the sound) which usually is a hindrance to a movie, but I couldn't take it anymore.. I had this on my IMDB watch-list... along with 2,000 others. Don't remember ever even reading the title. I did a Search on here and found 0 results. Less than 1,000 votes on IMDB but it's on Criterion. I need more movies like this. Contemporary dramas about people that stand on their own, ones you can't compare.

Yes. It's a long time since I've seen it, so I don't have anything to say about it.

I'd strongly recommend The White Dove, which is also currently on Criterion. And I'm going to assume you've seen Marketa Lazarova, but his other two medieval dramas are nearly as good as that one.

František Vláčil is a bit of a gem.

AWESOME...WE HAVE SOME SMART PEOPLE ON THIS SITE.👍🏻

I know of them, but prefer contemporary dramas. Is the medieval a strong focus?

"Adelheid" is a Lieutenant convalescing with a woman who's father was a top Nazi. Even though she's there to scrub floors and make food, he takes a liking to her.

Yes. They're dramas about medieval religiosity, basically. I take my recommendation back if you have an aversion to period settings. Still recommend The White Dove though.

Thanks for this. Are you US ?

No. I'm in the UK. Why do you ask?

reply

Just being aware of the Euro Cinema scene.

Ah. Yes. That's my thing. Indie / art house / cult cinema kind of fellow. The person a normie doesn't want to get stuck talking to at a party.

I'm going to check this out.

Enjoy! Please reply back with your thoughts after you do.

I did. Its on the film's main page Kowalsky created.

It struck me, as I watched it, how fundamentally different these kind of films are in comparison to general feature films - almost another art form entirely - much closer to novels, rendered upon film.

A film you may or may not have seen I'd recommend - The White Ribbon

I haven't saw that, but I'll look it up. Thanks.

It's hard describing this movie. Of course, it will be listed as a drama, which is probably why I prefer movies of the 60/70s and stick to that era. How I feel for the characters is important. I guess it's like with music. You can have the same exact notes (or script in a movie) and have something completely different.
