Your top three favorite movies you watched for the first time in the month of december (2024)
1. Stand By Me 9.5/10
2. Die Hard 9/10
3. PleasantVille 8.5/10

2. Conclave (2024)
3. Murders in the Zoo (1933)
Watching a movie for the first time has become a rarity for me over the past 10 years or so. I have so little interest in new movies that I can't even name a single one off the top of my head that was released in the past few years, and I've already seen all of the old movies that I want to see (and can think of). Every once in a great while I'll become aware of an older movie that sounds interesting and that I've never seen before.
During the entirety of 2024 I think I only saw three movies for the first time:
- Casablanca (1942)
- Gone With the Wind (1939)
- Thief (1981)
The first two weren't ones I just suddenly became aware of in 2024, since they are among the most famous movies of all time, but I'd always put off watching them because I didn't think I'd like them. They are both much better than I expected. Thief is a movie that a friend of mine mentioned several months ago, saying it had good picture quality (i.e., nice film grain preserved in the Blu-ray transfer, along with good colors, contrast, etc.) and a good rainy night scene (I love rain, both in real life and in movies). He was right, but the movie itself wasn't very good IMO.
The fact that it has taken you this long to see "Die Hard" proves that Clayton shouldn't be in charge of you.

That's about the only movie I've seen in a while, watched it on Christmas day.
Watching too many movies to be sure whether it's been in december, but december is where my wife wants to watch xmas movies and among those I can't really point to a "top three", because for my taste they are pretty much all the same.
The only one that stood out for me and I definitely watched for the first time in december was
- This is Not a Christmas Movie
Another movie I liked and saw in december but wouldn't really call a "top three" was
- Uranus 2324

Easy Money (2010)
Terrifier 3 (2024)
The Business (2005)
Nosferatu 8/10
A Futile and Stupid Gesture 7/10
Witchcraft 6/10
I probably forgot a few from earlier in the month. That's what comes to mind at the moment, thnough.,
Do you think Nosferatu is worth seeing in theaters? I've been debating whether to go check it out or waiting until streaming.
shareI didn't regret going. Visually, it tends to be pretty gloomy, but impressive. If you liked the way Eggers's other movies looked, might be worth paying to see on the big screen.
