What did you ⛄️ watch this week? (12/15-12/21)
My week:
Red one (2024 Prime): Very, very light entertainment and has some fun moments (they’re pretty much all in the trailer) but overall I didn’t care much about the characters and the story. The action was average and there was a lot of silly stuff. Plus, the « serious » parts were kind of boring. I was a bit tired watching it with my kids and thought it would wake me up but it didn’t. Unfortunately. My rating: 5.5/10
Longlegs (2024 Prime): Movie breakdown!
Cinematography: 9
Story: 7
Characters/actors: 7
Music: 7.5
Direction: 8
Violence: 7
Creepiness: 8
Opening credits: 9
Ending: 7
Overall: 7.5/10
Possession (1981 TV): This movie is FUCK’ed UP! Fucked up in a difficult-to-watch way. Difficult to watch in the sense that it’s powerful, disturbing and an assault on the senses. An assault on the senses meaning your eyes will hurt, you mouth will foam at the mouth and your ears will bleed while your brain is traumatized. I think you get what I’m trying to say. As we say in french; Deux fois bravo. My rating: 8/10
Pontypool (2009 TV): The concept here is interesting, the actors make this one location film captivating enough but I just wish the final act would have been a bit more satisfying and fulfilling. I feel like they let us down a bit with the ending there. Anyways, I liked Pontypool. Pontypool. Pontypool? Pontypool. 🤯 My rating: 6.5/10
Night of the demon 2 (1994 TV): I went in hoping for the best and expecting the worst. Turns out it was a lot of fun! Definitely in the “so bad it’s good “ kind of horror sub-genre. Or is it? Because the movie is also very self-aware of how silly it is but always stays true to its uncensored and comical identity. In other words, what I’m trying to say is, there’s some funny stuff, plenty of fun gore and a sufficient amount of nice boobies on display here. My rating: 7/10
All is bright (2013 Tubi): “Two French Canadian ne'er-do-wells travel to New York City with a scheme to get rich quick selling Christmas trees. Easygoing charmer Rene (Paul Rudd) clashes with misanthropic ex-con Dennis (Paul Giamatti), whose wife Rene just stole. Still, this odd couple must make an honest go of it in this buddy comedy.” Sounds fun right? It’s not. It’s the second time I give this movie a shot and found it boring both times. This movie is the opposite of festive or funny. The ending was sweet but all that came before it was meh. My rating: 4.5/10
Bad Santa 2 (2016 Tubi): At first this felt like a caricature of the first one which was a already a caricatural anti-Christmas movie but after the first half I started warming up to the story just enough for this to be an overall positive experience for me. Not as good as the first but not bad. My rating: 5.5/10
Carry on (2024 Netflix): Reminiscent of the good old thriller classics without ever finding enough distinction of its own to stand-out. Way too much far fetched coincidences and lots of none sense. A very average 2 hour film. My rating: 6/10
Die hard (1988 DVD): What can I say… it’s Die hard. The original. The classic. My rating: 8.5/10
