Top 5 regrettable franchises

1. The Matrix -should have stopped at 1. The sequels are a mess of ideas that sound cool but mean nothing.
2. The Hobbit - unnecessary, long, and unmemorable
3. Divergent - a cheap knockoff of another cheap series.
4. The Star Wars Prequels- they're horrific movies with terrible plots and people praising them due to a something akin to Disney Stockholm syndrome
5. Zach Snyder's DC Universe- it's not good. It looks great, but fail everywhere else.

Why are there so many sequels and reboots? Franchises. Studios think franchises are good. Most are pretty stupid.

I kinda like Matrix 2 and 3 (didn't see 4), but yes, they are far, far beneath the original.

I'd submit Michael Bay's Transformers to the list. All I was looking for was some cool robot fights, but thanks to abysmal cinematography, I didn't even get that.

The Terminator

The sequel was great.

They should have stopped at Terminator 2.

Terminator 3 was pretty good.

- the opening scene and Nick Stahl...it was pretty decent sequel.

reply

They were never going to top T2 - as good as it gets.

Can't speak for the first 4.

Agreed on #5. I didn't care for anything Zack Snyder did with Batman, Superman, or The Justice League.

1. The Matrix - the first 2 movies were great, the 3rd was a convoluted mess.
2. The Hobbit - almost better than LOTR. a great series.
3. Divergent - a cheap knockoff of another cheap series and dumb and stupid.
4. The Star Wars Prequels- at least the Prequels are real Star Wars movies and are a lot of better than the OT and that crap Disney made. only RSWF™ (real star wars fans) can love and appreciate what Lucas made. the cinematography and CGI was amazing and way ahead of its time. and Revenge of the Sith still has the best opening to any star wars movie ever.
5. Zach Snyder's DC Universe- it's not good. It looks great, but fails everywhere else. agreed.

Yes most are pretty stupid, but a lot of them make money. And it is a "to each his own" kind of thing. Some people love everything Star Wars or Star Trek or Marvel. But each franchise should be judged by each film individually. But here are some from me that got bad after the first or second one:

Alien after Aliens just repetitive or non sensical
A Nightmare on Elm Street after the first one becomes too cartoony
Star Wars OT original movie is so so, Empire is great and ROTJ is rehashed first film
Superman: Reeve films first and second (though it has some strange stuff) are classics the others are a waste of film
