Witnessing a fare evasion for public transit (aka "jumping the turnstiles")

Is it bad that I didn't confront a man who avoided paying his train fare by jumping the turnstiles? I didn't want to get into an argument or fight with the man, but then again, I don't want to get in trouble with the law either....

reply

It's not worth the argument and possible injury he could have inflicted on you.

reply

Yeah, I figured. Thanks for the input!

reply

It’s not your job. This would actually fall under the ‘Gatekeeping’ banner.

reply

Yeah it would, haha! Thanks!

It’s a common minor crime in NYC and it’s hardly punished at all. Why risk a rusty razor to your face when you have a whole workday planned.

Walk away, the cities are cesspools so why waste your good looks🥸

reply

Good ideas man! Thanks!

reply

I think most people, if being totally honest, would respond exactly the same way.

You don't want to get involved in the mess.

Yeah, just thought about it for a few moments. One would have responded as you did - not say a word, go about my business.

Does this makes us bad people? No, as said previously, don't wish to get involved in the ensuing mess.

reply

Yeah, I see now. Thanks!

reply

You should have congratulated him for getting on the train for free.

Signed, million man.

reply

Haha! Maybe?

reply

People get stabbed for less.

Pick the times you need to intervene - women and children getting hurt, sure, a lost government fee, who cares.

reply

Yep, I agree! Thanks!
