I never knew that I need a dog dressed up like a pineapple in my life before this.

reply

This site tells you things about yourself that you never knew.

Well, we're spying on you and we noticed that you like dogs and pineapples.

Wait, forget that last part.

I recently got into some long running series, as far as they are still available somewhere.
It started with the German series "Verbotene Liebe", 4,664 episodes between 1995 and 2015, all available in full length on YT.
Then I was for a while into "Shortland Street" from New Zealand which has over 11,000 episodes by now and is still in production, but that turned out to be a pain with getting a subscription there.
Same thing with series from GB, like "EastEnders", the BBC is just too restrictive with their content, without residence in GB you can't get a subscription.
Latest for me is another German series "In aller Freundschaft", launched in 1998, has 2 spin offs, a total of over 1,500 episodes so far and is available for free on the websites of German public TV channels as well as on DVD through Amazon. They come with subtitles, but German only, meaning if you don't speak German it becomes quite a task running them all through an online subtitle translator.

reply

WOW....THAT IS FAIRLY IMPRESSIVE.

reply

Well, if you find that impressive, let me give you the part where you'll call me crazy.
I do not trust in YT keeping the whole series of "Verbotene Liebe" online, I do not trust in Amazon offering all new seasons of "In aller Freundschaft" coming out on DVD and German public TV has a limitation by law that their shows can be available only up to 2 years after they aired (which is the reason why they keep repeating the whole series of "In aller Freundschaft" roughly every 2 years to renew the time they can be available online).

I'm a perfectionist, I have recorded all episodes through a digital TV tuner I have in my computer (which is perfectly legal) and I have bought several HDDs of 20TB each to store them.
I'm going as far as having every single episode stored twice, so I won't lose anything in case one of the HDDs fails and since data on HDDs doesn't last more than about 10-15 years, I refresh the copies every 3-5 years.

I used to have a program called VideoBox/VideoBoxPro that would download YouTube videos. You should put them on a big disk ... 10TB ought to be way
more than enough, buy two and back the original one up to the other. Add a
checksum to the name of the file so you can tell if they have been corrupted.

What do you use to record off YouTube?

reply

For the most part I don't, I live in Europe and get German TV through satellite, where the resolution of the video is usually better than on YT, so I just use my TV tuner (TBS 6902) plus DVBViewer as recording software.
Furthermore there's a 3rd party software named "MediathekView" that will find and download everything that has been on any of the German public TV channels in the last 2 years, currently almost 800,000 titles, it's officially not supported by the TV channels, but since their content is available for free anyway they apparently don't mind a 3rd party software giving viewers an easy access to all of it.
A few titles will be geoblocked and for these it's not really legal to use a VPN and get around that, but for me that's not an issue, because I live within the area.

Of course I'm aware of all the YT downloaders, but I don't have a specific one I use there.

There have been only two regular TV shows one was a fan of...

Guiding Light
The WHite Shadow

One Cable TV show....

The first four seasons of the HBO program "Curb Your Enthusiasm". Started losing interest by Season 5. After that, I watched it on and off.

Oh, yeah, and as part of a discussion with a friend, one watched all 5 seasons of "Six Feet Under".

Series....

Many. I'll think of the faves first....

"Dopesick"

"Olive Kitteridge"

"Mare of Easttown"

"Escape at Dannemora"

"Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story"

"The People vs OJ Simpson"

I'll name some more, none of these really stood out. They were all ok....

"The Penguin"

"The Kennedys" only Season 1

"The Old Man"

"The Defeated"

"Feud: Bette and Joan"

"Band of Brothers"

"Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story"

HHmmm, going back to childhood....

"Roots"

Plus several one quit on.
