Ghost Shows

It used to be, before the 2000's, that haunting shows told history, explained the hauntings, and interviewed people who experienced things or lived there. The audience got to listen and decide for themselves.

Today we get a group of jackasses running around in the middle of the night with night vision cameras, and a bunch of static boxes they fake noises with.

I know this isn't what you're talking about but I have been enjoying Ghosts, the sitcom, on CBS.

That's a more believable ghost hunting show 😆

The UK or US version? Both are quite good actually. I prefer the original but I find English sitcoms/comedies funnier in general.

reply

I've only seen the US version so far but I bet I would enjoy the UK version, too. I've enjoyed it all along but it actually feels like they've upped the writing quality this season. It has made me laugh or get teary eyed a few times and I'm not sure that happened last season.

reply

I’m sure you would enjoy the UK version too.

Were you a fan of The Office? Ricky Gervais’ original is one of the funniest shows ever for me, but I just couldn’t get into the US remake, even though it outlived the UK version by years. Steve Carell just never made me cringe/laugh the way Ricky did.

I've only seen the US version of The Office but I enjoyed it. I did feel like it lost some steam over the years though. My sister watched the UK version and has also encouraged me multiple times to watch it.

Oh you have to! It’s only two seasons (14 eps) so not an overwhelming undertaking. If we were closer I’d totally lend you my DVD set. I’d love to hear your thoughts if you do get to catch it one day.

reply

Aww, that's really sweet. Well, if I give it a try I promise to come back and tell you what I think. 😊

reply

Yeah I hate those newer ghost hunting shows you’re talking about. Unconvincing nonsense, I really don’t see the point of them.

I came here thinking it was a different kind of thing.
When I was younger, movie producers (William Castle in particular) would hold Midnight Ghost Shows.
They were a combination of a horror movie with a live stage show between screenings, usually a horror themed magic show.

The Queen Mary segment on Unsolved Mysteries still scares the crap out of me.
