Have u ever seen anybody faint because of something someone said?...

...Like in the movies? Or... Someone you didn't expect to walk in the room walks in the room...and someone else faints over it?

I can't recall in my life ever seeing someone fainting, unless they were having some sort of blood/sugar event or a medical type of situation...certainly not because of news they heard or someone they saw, like you often see in the movies.

I wonder how fainting over news/events became so damn popular in movies? I notice they do it much less often now...but this was pretty common in 1950's through 1980's movies for sure.

I walked into a bar I had frequented, after a few months absence, and my friends about fell over. Somehow there had been a rumor that I had died. It was funny.

reply

Well don't keep us in suspense, did you die or not?

reply

Good topic. Never thought of this.

I've seen someone faint over seeing blood, but never from something someone said.

My batshit crazy ex-wife would get dizzy and faint over seeing blood even if it were hers. I've never seen anyone else faint for any reason.

It wasn't great as we were in a first aid situation at my work, and suddenly there were two "patients" instead of one. For non paramedic people, it was stressful

I once "fainted" or lost consciousness donating blood without eating anything first. That was an awful feeling.

I’ve feigned fainting a few times when my wife has asked me to do something - it never works though.

I used to faint a lot as a child. No idea why, just randomly faint. From all those episodes, as an adult, I can now stand up while having low blood pressure.

I once almost blacked out while riding my bicycle, arrived at a gas station, and the attendant called 911. The paramedics arrived and I declined treatment. The guy asked me to stand up and looked at me like I was a ghost. He said it shouldn't be possible to stand while having low blood pressure.

reply

No, I have not.
I am thinking now about " Cast Away ".

reply

Oh yeah, Cast Away had a fainting scene with Helen Hunt, I forgot about that one. Off the top of my head, I also remember seeing one in Christmas Vacation (the Grandma faints over something, I can't recall what exactly) and, a more recent one, Django Unchained, when Kerry Washington's character sees Django unexpectedly. There's got to be hundreds of these scenes.

I think Hollywood writers often don't feel their reveal is dramatic enough, so they up the ante with someone fainting to it. I'm surprised Tarantino, one of my favorite writers, stooped to that level though.
