Essential Halloween viewing for an early teen just starting to watch scary movies

My youngest son recently turned 15 and, until recently, has refused to watch any movies that are remotely scary.

Now that he's open to partaking in spooky season, what would you consider to be the essential Halloween viewing?

I'm starting with the original Night of the Living Dead. Your suggestions are appreciated.

These are all fine for a 15 year old. Hell, I saw some of these when I was 10.

Scream
A Nightmare on Elm St.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Cujo
Halloween
Evil Dead II

Thank you for the response. I'll put these on the list. Mainly, I just want to be sure he understands a lot of the cultural references that come from these, but there's also a certain enjoyment of spooky season in itself.

Scream would be the easiest one for him since he didn't want to watch scary movies before.

Some Hammer or Amicus are classics and not overly frightening. Although they may not be optimal viewing for a 15 year old 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'd recommend Scream of fear (Hammer 1961). ...And Now The Screaming Starts (Amicus 1973). Both story orientated rather than jump scares.
The Innocents (1961) is also a great ghost story - essentially it's The Turn of the Screw.

Thanks for this. The whole family is a fan of the older, narrative driven, storytelling movies. It makes sense here. And my wife hates jump scares, so these are good suggestions.
