There were bags of 30 candles with a 4 hour burn time for £1.99, or 25 candles with an 8 hour burn time for £2.49.

I bought the 8 hour bag. Would 2, 4 hour bags have been better value?

This is like some mad exam question that I would fail! Because there are different amounts of candles in each bag I just can't get my head around it 😵‍💫

Which should I have bought? I feel like I've fallen Into a marketing trap.

its always a marketing trap. I would go with the 1.99 because I am cheap.

It did grieve me tbh. I used to pay £2 for 100 around 2 years ago 😒.

Candles are dangerous and some fireman said they are the leading cause of non-arson fires.

Just learn to embrace the darkness.

Try flameless candles.

You get none of the warmth and get to fill up the landfill with batteries.

30 candles x 4 hours = 120 hours @ £1.99.
120 divided by 1.99 = 60.3 hours per £1.

25 candles x 8 hours = 200 hours @ £2.49.
200 divided by 2.49 = 80.3 hours per £1.

Therefore, the second one is more cost effective.

I thought I had it right but the more I thought about it, the more I couldn't make sense of it. But maths genius AndyKing figured it out for me 👍
