Want to book my trip to New York City soon. Which is best area to stay?

Apparently, midtown Manhattan is best to stay for doing touristy stuff? Or any areas you can recommend? Any tips/advice? I'm planning on going sometime in mid-November.

Thanks!

I'm trying to think of where I would stay. Hotels are so expensive in NYC. Midtown East I think safer than Midtown West. Around Grand Central Station rather than Times Square. Another good hub would be around Union Square.

Advice? Google--nyc tips for tourist safety

I LOVE the Wall Street area. It's the most historic part of Manhattan. But as a base of operations for a first-time visitor? I have my doubts. Tucked away there you may end up spending a lot of time traveling. But it looks very cool.

Why am I thinking now about "coming to America"?

Coney Island. Brooklyn. Used to live there. Maybe Astoria Queens Steinway street is full of stores. Lived there too. Keep your hand on your wallet and don't act like a tourist. Well not stay, but visit.

Signed, million man.

Midtown East makes being a tourist very walkable (New York Minute Andy).

Agree. Also suggest you first take the HOHO bus around town to get an idea of what is where. I always try to see a show and if you are in the Broadway area try Ellen's Stardust Diner. Very talented singing waitstaff and the food is also good. It's a unique place that I always enjoy.

Can't wait to do another solo trip! Especially after my last epic solo trip to Iceland. Apparently, NYC is a great place for introverts because no one bugs you for small talk. People are too busy to care about you. Love it!
