What did you mammals watch this week? (09/08-09/14)
You and me baby ain’t nothing but mammals so let’s share what we watched this week.
Me:
Free Willy (1993 DVD): If you had asked 10 year old me to list my top 20 favourite films, this would most probably be on the list. Watching it as an adult with my kids today, it’s still very good (and very nostalgic) but not as great as I remembered. My rating: 7.5/10
Kill me three times (2014 Tubi): When I noticed this movie it did pick my curiosity but I was also afraid it would be another one of those “more convoluted than it has to be” crime story or just plain disappointing and boring. Well, I’m happy to say that it was none of that. It was pretty straightforward, smart, simple, violent, entertaining and even funny at times. The cinematography looked good, the story kept me in and had a nice buildup all the way up to a “shit hits the fan” ending and the cast offered solid performances so yeah, I enjoyed it. My rating: 7/10
The Terry Fox story (1983 TV): it might be the fourth time I watched this but most importantly, all my kids saw it and this year was the first time for my five-year-old daughter. Since she knew she was the only one who had not seen it she was really into it and it made me super happy. Fun fact: The actor is a real amputee and had never act before this but since he looked like Terry Fox, they trained him to be an actor. It turned out very well. This is one of my favourite true story and I can’t give it a lower rating then: 8.5/10
Butt boy (Friday night special): The reviews were wrong. It’s in the first hour that it’s actually creating a strange but good atmosphere, some palpable tension and somewhat interesting characters. The final act took all that tension and released it in what sounded like a silent but violent shart. It was a bit disappointing, surprising and messy. Not bad at all though. My rating: 6/10
Brain dead (Friday late night special): I feel like I did not give it a proper watch as my attention span was not fitted for this type of movie at the time we watched it. The bits of dialogues I listen to were actually good and I feel like it’s a slow build up for a pretty awesome ending but this movie was way more demanding than I thought it would be. I will need to rewatch it for sure. When I do, either my rating will improve or stay the same. These are the only two possible options. My rating: 6/10
Beetlejuice (Saturday night special): First time re-watching it since what seems like a lifetime ago and it still made me feel happy. I was able to appreciate its whole quirkiness and zaniness. When I’ll rewatch it again will be when my kids are a little bit older and I can’t wait to see their reactions to it. Personally, if I had one complaint, it would be there’s not enough Beetlejuice. Keaton should’ve gotten more screen time .My rating: 8/10
Bliss (Saturday late night special): That movie is hard to rate because for the first hour it kept nagging at me and stepping on my nerve and at the same time letting me know how great it could be. Then for the last 30 minutes, it was as great as it let me know it could be. So the build up was like a 6 and the climax (hello Gaspar ;) was a 8/10. Since I got the ( cool looking) dvd and there is a very special and amazing deleted scene, I’ll be generous and give it a rating of: 7/10
