Do you buy movies digitally?

If so, from where? And what were the last movies you bought digitally? I sometimes buy digital movies from the Apple tv app (formerly called iTunes). I bought Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga on sale today for 9.99. It includes a couple hours of behind the scenes footage and special features. In the past two months I have purchased digital copies of:

Kinds of Kindness
Hit Man
The Boyfriend
The Fall Guy
Back to the Beach
Pennies From Heaven
Xandau
It Happened at the World's Fair
Lullaby for Broadway
Tea for Two

reply

Are they in some standard format that work with common video players?

reply

They are a digital copy, so you watch them in the app on any device that is compatible with it.

As far as I know, no one legitimately sells 1:1 rips of Blu-rays in a standard video file format (e.g., an MKV or MP4 container) that you can download to your drive, so no, I never have. If I'm going to pay for it, it's going to be mine to keep indefinitely and do whatever I want with it, not some DRM-laden, reduced bitrate horseshit that depends on a proprietary media player and which can be taken away at any time.

Physical Blu-rays and DVDs have forms of DRM too, but they are easily defeated, which gives you a standard video file that you can do whatever you want with, and which is under no one's control other than your own.

reply

No, but many of the DVDs I buy these days include a code to download a digital copy...

reply

FUUUUUUUUCK NO.😐

reply

Aren't you that guy who loves digital movies and hates physical media?

reply

I USED TO SELL THEM...THEN EBAY GOT ALL ASSHOLE ABOUT THAT...NOW I SPIT ON THEM AND THROW THEM AWAY.

reply

Never. I will rent some every month for MCMC weekends though if they’re like 3-5 bucks.

reply

No. I'm a physical media guy.

Also, I literally just got my Furiosa Bluray today.

My collection isn't THAT huge. Cause I don't buy everything. If I'm unsure of it, I'll check it out on streaming or just rent it.

The biggest compliment I could give a film/tv show is, "I saw it on the big screen/on tv & now I own it for life."

reply

Yep, Amazon Prime. I have about 300 titles.

reply

No. Once in a blue moon I might rent one if it’s something that I really want to watch immediately.

reply

Same here.
