1) Darren McGavin
I was on an airplane with him and recognized him by the way he flipped his hat into the luggage rack. We talked for about twenty minutes.
2. Rosey Grier
When I was about 10 years old me and my parents were flying first class to New York City and I ended up sitting next to Rosey Grier and he was doing needlepoint. It was fun seeing this tough guy doing needlepoint and we talked for most of the flight. Even though I've met many celebrities in my life Grier was the only famous person I asked for an autograph.
3. I don't recall ever asking for an autograph, but i did witness a couple. I was in a Manhattan diner having lunch and Barney Martin, Seinfeld's father on the show, wearing his trademark big glasses, was sitting at another table. Someone came up to him and asked for his autograph. He was very gracious and seemed to like it that he was asked.
4. The other was one of the Hanson brothers. It's 2004 and my mother and I are in a Blockbuster on 3rd Ave and a couple girls notice a customer--one of the Hanson brothers, they were playing a concert at nearby Irving Plaza. Of course we had never heard of Hanson. The girls got his autograph and my mom asked him who he was. He was very nice to her. A real gentleman for someone so young.
5. Woody Hayes, legendary Ohio State football coach. My sister actually got the autograph for me when she was working on her undergraduate degree at OSU in the early 80s. Coach Hayes would actually walk around the OSU campus quite frequently and mingle with the students and faculty. My sister had a copy of Hayes' autobiography called "You Win With People" and he signed it for me with this inscription: "To (my name): Be sure to study hard and plan to come to Ohio State in 1987."
I never attended Ohio State (It was just way too big for me and I would have been overwhelmed there
6. Bob Munden, fast draw artist. He shot a bullet through a stack of papers and then signed them for everyone. Wish I knew what happened to it.
