What is Hollywood's fascination with showing a pre-trailer before the main trailer?

If they're going to show me the trailer for a movie, why do they insist on show us a 10 second supercut before the real trailer begins? I honestly don't understand the logic behind this.

Probably a huge pile of cocaine is involved in these decisions.

When I release my first film it’s gonna blow your mind!

Ewoks, Wicked Witches, Beach Boys soundtrack, Strippers… it’s going to be quite a show!

You will all be tussling for tix!

Yep. It's add marketing. They're hoping it gets the accidental clickers to stay.
