My heart hurts for Jasper, Alberta

I really feel for all those who lost their homes, businesses, and of course the beautiful area just being decimated by the fire. At least with this wildfire it wasn't caused by human stupidity, but that's little consolation. I hope that wildlife casualties are at a minimum.

Not the fires again...

Signed, million man.

reply

Yeah, breaks my heart.

reply

Always an unfortunate natural hazard, those wildfires.

I hope the vegetation can proliferate once again.

reply

Such sad news - I've never been there but it's been on my bucket list for a long time.

reply

It's one of my favourite places. The dark sky sanctuary in the park is wonderful for both star gazing and aurora spotting.

reply

I didn't know there is a dark sky sanctuary there but guess I should have. If I ever make it up there I will definitely plan my trip while there is a new moon.

reply

FIRE IS TERRIBLE...HAD A WILDFIRE HERE TODDAY AS WELL...AWFUL STUFF....PTAYERS AND THOUGHTS TO THE RESIDENTS OF JASPER.

reply

I never discount human stupidity.

Was nothing learned from Fort McMurray and other places?

I love trees but god damn, cut them down if they're just going to burn one day.

reply

How far away are you?

reply

Apparently warnings were issued as early as 2017 - it looks like it was caused by human stupidity.

This isn't a political thread.

reply

The fact there were warning is not political.

It didn't "just" happen.

reply

YOU ARE CORRECT.

YOUR LINK IS DICKHEAD POLITICAL RAMBLING THOUGH.

reply

The bit at the start was what was interesting.

If there's a better link to the warnings, someone please provide it.

I absolutely agree on that. I am just saying that the video only picked on the left, while the right has ignored the issue as well. In fact, the UCP have cut the fire fighting budget even more in recent years. Considering that the right has had power in Alberta 49 out of the last 53 years...I think it's fair to say that just Government isn't listening nor preventing no matter which side of the aisle they sit on.

We agree that Smokey the Bear isn't doing his job.

It is always a drama when that happens, currently in California (e.g) and every summer in South Europe.
