πŸŽ₯ StoneKeeper's Movie Guessing Game: I recommend THIS Movie #2402 [VinceD makes a sky high spectacle with MISS FIRECRACKER]

What a scorcher we've got going today! Even so, things are still heating up as we get into this day of independence. How about a special round before the customary explosions in the sky?

[quote]I have a movie in mind and you have to guess which one it is. For each movie you guess, I will give a hint that connects your guess with the movie I have in mind.

For each guess, a connection is posted. Examples of connections: Actor, length, genre, aspect ratio, language, country, year, director, actor, writer in common, rating, number of votes. It can even be something like: both movies involve Cabbage Patch Kids. Also, you can use Metascore color or rating, Rotten Tomatoes score, any award wins or nominations in common, same number of words in the title, plot keywords. Note: "Plot" in the IMDB advanced search links to "Plot Summary" on the film's page. "Keyword" in the advanced search links to "Plot Keyword" on the film's page.

Let's get it on!

****UNDER 3500 IMDB USER VOTES****

Hint 1: Mister Blot's Academy (1984) - IMDB user rating is swimming in the 6s.
Hint 2: Carny (1980) - At least one Oscar winner in the cast.
Hint 3: Mikey (1992) - Director does not have writing credit.
Hint 4: Firebrand (2023) - Drama.
Hint 5: The Cobweb (1955) - Based on previously written material.
Hint 6: State Fair (1933) - Comedy.
Hint 7: Ezra (2023) - Yellow Metascore.
Hint 8: Watermelon Man (1970) - Two word title.
Hint 9: Tempest (1982) - MPA Rated PG.

Leaving a trail of bombast and ballyhoo in his wake is Vince D with Miss Firecracker (1989), a quintessential American tale of ambition and gumption set against the backdrop of a Southern beauty pageant. Shades of Tennessee Williams pop up with well-observed characters and palpable emotion at just about every turn, due in no small part to a sparkling lead performance from Holly Hunter. I'm not one to follow beauty pageants, but the script is keenly aware of the inherent silliness of such an affair and has a lot of fun with it. Happy Birthday, America!
