We will miss you Red Lobster

Although I never dined there, I recall how popular the restaurants were only a few decades ago. Speaking of seafood, only a few days, ago, I craved some fried scallops, I have not had that in ages, the last time was in the early 90's. I have also consumed lobster bisque, and lobster egg rolls, but never boiled lobster, although I liked boiled crab in my youth.

Has anyone ever ate there, or knew someone who was a former employee?

I love Red Lobster, though I've only eaten there three or four times.

Were they expensive or moderately priced regarding most items?

Well, lobster isn't cheap, but overall it is a casual dining chain, not a high-end restaurant.

In college, I recall going to Long John Silver's in Chicago in the mid 80's. I think I liked the clam chowder and some other items. In fact , while on a church trip , we stopped at one in Indiana. I think they closed down too a few years ago.

I remember liking Long John Silver's, I love fried shrimp and also fish & chips. But of course that is a fast food chain, so it's going to be less expensive than Red Lobster.

We're getting a Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips here in Reno at one of the casinos. Should be opening soon.

I've only had Long John's a few times, but their fish was always way, way too salty.

I have one Red Lobster story.

I have a low hot food threshold, probably due my ancestors being potato eaters, however I refuse to acknowledge this.

We went there when they had all you could eat shrimp and one of the plates I ordered was spicy habanero shrimp or something like that, I was eating them, turning red, drinking copious amounts of water and was determined to finish them. The waitress, kept bringing me water and at one point, bless her heart, seeing how red I was getting, politely asked if I wanted to switch the plate out with something less spicy. Being a stubborn dummy, I ate them all.

I never ordered that again but I did enjoy it every time I went there.

I don’t get the appeal of killer hot spice either, it ruins the flavor of the food imo.

I ATE THERE ONCE...AS A FAVOR TO A FRIEND....I HATED LOBSTER...THE GIRLFRIEND OF HIS GIRLFRIEND HAD HORRID TABLE MANNERS AND I LOST ALL INTEREST...I ENDED UP EATING EVERYONE'S TURF AND DRINKING FOUR BEERS.

THE RESTAURANTS NAME MAKES ME THINK OF HAPPY GILMORE THOUGH....THAT'S A COOL THING

I only found out a few years ago, lobsters were once considered "cockroaches of the sea". I guess they smell pretty bad spoiled or dead. In addition, they were once considered a poor man's food item, the same with crabs as well. How bad was the young lady's table manners , if I may ask?

True. Lobsters were often fed to prisoners because it was so plentiful during Colonial times in the New England area.

And speaking of Red Lobster, I love their food (of course I'm a seafood buff, but I also liked their Cheddar Bay Biscuits!)

I've never really cared for Red Lobster, although I do like their biscuits.

My friends really liked it and wanted to have an anniversary/borthday party there. There wouldn't do a reservation, nor would they push tables together. So we could sit separately, or just wait. I think they waited 4 hours for the freakin table. This was pre cell phones, so we waited around outside. If it wasn't that I was young and wanting to be part of the party I would have left. They did bring us biscuits a few times outside, but that just really pissed me off and I haven't been back.

I remember the first time I ate at one, it was the early 1980s in a Bay Area (California) suburb. I was a bit shocked as it was the first time I ever had to wait to be seated, the place was packed! I had never experienced a restaurant so full, so busy. I chalked it up to life in the suburbs.

Only thing great about this place was the cheddar biscuits. Their seafood was nothing special imo.
