RRHOF 2024 Inductees

.My picks from the nominees in bold

Mary J. Blige,
Cher,
Dave Matthews Band,
Foreigner,
Peter Frampton,
Kool & The Gang,
Ozzy Osbourne
A Tribe Called Quest.

At least this time out, half of the inductees can be truly classified as Rock👍

Good to see Frampton & Foreingner finally getting in. Plus, of course, Ozzy😎

As far as Foreingner, I wonder if both Mick Jones & Lou Gramm will show up & perform together?

reply

I think Ozzy and Frampton are the only ones who deserve to be there.

reply

MC5 is finally getting in as well, albeit under the "Musical Excellence" category (like Judas Priest did)

I'm surprised Sinead O'Conner didn't get a sympathy/condolence induction.

reply

They have a history of making WTF choices. Laura Nyro got in. I mean, who and why?

reply

Laura Nyro did write a lot of songs, many covered by a lot of Rock bands ("Eli's Coming" by Three Dog Night, & "And When I Die" by Blood Sweat & Tears, plus many others as well.)

reply

All excellent picks, I would just add Cher to your list, she’s a very big deal imo.

reply

I don't know if I would classify most of Cher's music as "Rock", except for the "Black Rose" album. JMO.

reply

I can’t disagree with you, I wouldn’t call her music rock either.
I just think based upon her body of work and amazingly long career she deserves some attention.

Frankly, they should just change the name to Music Hall Of Fame or something similar.

reply

I call it the Rolling Stone Magazine Popular Music HOF. Most of the inductees the last 15-20 years can hardly be classified as "Rock 'n' Roll ".

reply

That works for me😉

reply

Foreigner
Ozzy Osbourne

🤘🎸

Ok, if it really is about rocknroll - and it really is a Hall of fame....

Then there are only two qualifiers -

Foreigner and Ozzy.

Frampton's reign was too brief. 1976-77 - that was it.

Kool and the Gang - Great career for sure, but it isn't rocknroll.

The rest aren't even worth talking about.

Foreigner had a fantastic start, with a total of about 7 years of really good work.

Ozzy, his career (Between Black Sabbath and solo) has gone on for decades.

Based on the success and longevity of the success - only Foreigner and Ozzy should be inducted.

But the influence that the live album had on many guitar players (myself included😎) has indeed had a lasting impact, even if he didn't really have a lasting commercial impact past that.

And he should be more recognized for his work with Humble Pie, one of the most crinimaly forgotten about bands in Rock ever!

reply

Hello MTX......

Yes - I can understand your argument. But I don't agree. "Frampton Comes ALive" was massive. Massive in 1976. I think Frampton had only one more success - "I'm in You" - which came out in 77. After the debacle of SPLHCB, to my knowledge, he didn't do a thing. Of course I could be wrong, I was a little boy at the time.

ANyway, it seems to me you should have to accomplish more to be in a HOF.

On your side of the argument - you may be right, I wasn't there for Humble Pie. I have no idea what kind of impact they had in their time. Perhaps, if you combine the two, perhaps then he is a worthy HOF inductee.

I'll be seeing Foreigner & Styx on June 18th.. I'm looking more forward to Foreigner than Styx, mainly because Dennis Deyoung is not with the band no longer for dumb reasons and he was a big part of Styx, however, I'm sure Tommy Shaw and his material will rock the house

reply

Foreingner is pretty much a "tribute" band at this point. Mick Jones only shows up occasionally to play a song or two, but that's about it.

Most of the members in the current touring band have only put 1 album out, 15 years ago.

reply

The ones in bold

Ozzy Osbourne
Kool & The Gang
Foreigner
Peter Frampton

Foreigner was my first concert. Ozzy had the best set-list in concert. Saw Frampton in a three band show (not sure if he headlined). Would have been nice to see Kool & The Gang in the 70s had I been alive. Love the proggy-jazzy stuff like "Wild and Peaceful"
