Interesting Trivia: Since they shared top billing, Steve McQueen and Paul Newman had it in their contracts that they had to have the same number of lines in the film. Since Newman was in the film from the beginning and had already used up a good chunk of his lines, McQueen had a more intense performance in the second half.
