For those who travel a question?

Is there a fail safe way to safeguard your luggage for flight against potential drug smugglers, looking to turn you into their drug mule? Of course we've probably heard about rechecking your bags just before arriving at the airport and so on. But there's so many sneaky tactics these scoundrels can utilize I'm sure, like possibly placing a package in a suitcase while in transit from the hotel shuttle to you, or even somehow doing it while you move it to the bag check in. Is it possible and advisable to willfully ask for your bag to be searched just prior to check in by someone else in the presence of airport staff? Or could that be no better than being caught by security somehow if it was there and volunteering your neck for a noose regardless of your innocence in this case? Because in some countries, they've been known to execute those caught and convicted of drug trafficking.

I’ve travelled internationally for over 40 years and have visited over 60 countries. I’ve never had a problem.

You’re only going to get involved in this if you choose to.

reply

I've done my fair share of international travel also. But to assume your always somehow going to be safe is the equivalent of believing you could never be hit by a car while using a sidewalk. Just about anything can be possible at any given time. Ever see the movie "Broke Down Palace"? I've heard it's a true story.

reply

You're never going to get struck by a vehicle using a sidewalk.. You're not

reply

When we travel, our bags don’t leave our sides, so it’s not going to happen. Besides, the drug runners are going to go for easy marks.

reply

My bags don't leave my side either.

I have heard stories (no idea the truth on them though) of airport workers smuggling by opening checked backs and putting stuff in there, and then airport workers on the other end take it out before you get your bags back.

You were the first person who popped into my head when I saw this thread lol

To be fair, I need to go in the ASICS store and get some omni tennis shoes 👟

Do you play tennis?

reply

Not really - the little one does and I’ve volunteered to stand on the other side of the net and bat balls at her.

reply

Aww

That’s about all I’m good for tennis wise.

I’m sat outside Kate Spade now, lol.

How you you feel if she walked out of the clothing store wearing a Liverpool kit?

reply

Unlikely - she’s never owned a replica shirt of any team.

reply

Until now when she realizes that she will never walk alone.

I never check baggage, though not because of drug mules, lol. I don't want to deal with the airlines more than I have to, and they are notorious for losing luggage; therefore, I travel light and take carry-ons only. Even when traveling for an extended stay, I just buy new clothes and items if I need them.

It's also a good excuse to have some fun shopping and buying clothes from the locals.

I suppose that's my long-winded way of saying: my fail-safe method is to travel light.

I have TSA locks on my bags.
