Can Americans tell me what your fascination is with those Stanley cups?

And I'm not talking about the prize you get in the NHL. There is a frenzy going on with these stupid cups. Y'all are animals I tells ya! Animals!

Side note: why are they calling them cups when they're closer to mugs?

reply

I take pride in saying, never heard of this.

reply

I wish I never heard of this.

reply

No idea what those are or heard about them.

reply

Apparently it started from a TikTok video and people bought into it and they started selling like crazy.

reply

Wow, people are crazy.

reply

NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.

reply

You never know what anyone is talking about.

reply

SAYS THE GUY POSTING ABOUT TIKTOKCOCK

reply

I'm actually criticizing it.

reply

Add me to the list of WTF is that??

reply

It's a fad that just started this week.

reply

I just heard about them today in a video from one of my favorite YouTubers(who is Canadian btw...)

reply

I've seen videos all week. It's like it's the end of the world and they're trying to get the last case of bottled water.

reply

It truly boggles the mind! Forty-five bucks for that? It's a cup, for fuck's sake...

reply

i though this had something to do with hockey

reply

So did I when I first heard about it. It's just crazy people jumping on some stupid hyped red/pink cup.

reply

there's a company in the usa named stanley and they make cups. who knew?

reply

It is a hockey thing, but really, what with the ravenous appetite of the sports 24/7/365 infotainment machine, any "big thing du jour" will do. All they do is prime the pump to create a manufactured buzz "that everybody's talking about", then spew out the usual glurge-worthy hype as though they're just reporting on "what everybody's talking about". It's all BS.

Yes each sport has their die-hard fans that have/will follow, but I've seen so many people blab on and on about some big event solely because it's a current "news" item, even though they never follow said sport, much less have a background in it.

"March Madness", The Kentucky Derby, the Americas Cup.... 360 days a year these dolts know/care f*ck all about college basketball, horse racing, sailing, unless the boob tube tells them to care during a current news cycle.

Full disclosure: I am righteously cynical as hell.

reply

Are you a hockey fan?

reply

Not a fan of any spectator sports at all, but way back when I was in my early-mid teens I liked baseball and hockey, though I wasn't a rabid fan.

reply

The People of Stupid have spoken.
